Not sure what type of brake fluid to get? Here’s a basic overview to help out. I’ve got more information about brake fluids on my Brake Fluid information page.

DOT 5.1 – This is the brake fluid I’d recommend for most people. It’s a fantastic fluid for normal to “spirited” driving for anyone that doesn’t do track days, and it isn’t expensive. I don’t recommend using this on track unless you’re a casual driver new to tracking your car.

RBF 600 – If you do occasional track days, this is the fluid I’d recommend. I’ve used this myself quite a bit in track days and it holds up really well, plus is perfectly fine for all the street driving that the DOT 5.1 does.

RBF 660 – This is the brake fluid I’d only recommend for racing or serious track junkies. It’s by far the most expensive, but is still a cheap insurance policy if you’re beating on your car hard on track.

Order Quantities

For most jobs I’d recommend ordering 2 bottles (1L total) of brake fluid, but it may be best to order three bottles to ensure enough is on hand, and to allow more thorough flushing.
